New Place Wedding Photography
New Place at Shirrell Heath is part of the De Vere group of hotels. New Place is located in the Hampshire countryside just outside of Southampton and is just a short drive from the M27 motorway.
The venue and its stunning grounds are set around a Grade I listed manor house. As soon as you arrive at the imposing wrought iron gates, you know this venue is going to be special. The New Place manor house dates back to the 17th Century. However, there are additional buildings within the venue to help make just about any wedding day run as smooth as possible.
The Dining Room can hold up to 90-guests. While The Bristol Room can seat 75-guests. Both rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies. Each room has an entirely different feel. The Dining Room is light and airy. Meanwhile The Bristol room is more intimate and set against a magnificent stone fireplace. The Arden Suite is a purpose built building and is ideal for larger ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and evening celebrations.
I’ve heard some photographers struggle with things being too dark or backlit in the Bristol Room. Personally, I love it. It means I have to push my cameras to the low-light limits they were built for. A back lit, grainy, black & white photograph, filled with emotion as two people exchange their vows, is my choice every time over pulling out a flash gun and removing any ambience of the moment.
The food at New Place is delicious and always beautifully presented. This is from both what I’ve seen and tasted as a wedding photographer at New Place, but also when I’ve visited there on a personal basis.
New Place Wedding Photography is just so easy. As a documentary wedding photographer I find everything about the venue just perfect for gaining natural, non-staged pictures as events unfold. The amount of space at the venue encourages guests to wander and enjoy the stunning grounds giving more opportunity for documentary photographs.
The grounds are fantastic for a few portraits and group photos. To the rear of the building there is a terrace overlooking the grounds. Also, the gardens are spread over two levels and include a croquet lawn and a cricket ground. There is also a nature trail to follow around the venue.
